METEORS THE ENTIRE NIGHT sent me their debut EP and it's pretty sweet. Let's be real, the four of the five songs on this release are decent post-hardcore songs with slight screamo and metalcore influences. But track three, oh track three is where they shine.

The EP opens with a short, ambient opening before delving into the crunchy, post-hardcore "Ringpulls and Ceratopsians". The song contains repetitions of a pretty sweet Hopesfall-esque "dun-dun-dun" breakdown that is the highlight of the track. "Long Days and Pleasant Nights" is similar, but sheds the breakdowns and includes some dual vocals instead, making them the focal point of the song, save that very cool synth outro just before the three-minute mark. By far the best song by the band is titled of "What's Best in Life" must have come from the original Conan: The Barbarian movie. It's another good song that gets fucking sick once that massive solo riff steals the show at 41 seconds and again at 2:10. Seriously it's so sweet and reminds me of, if I must, Aviator and Pianos Become The Teeth, even though I don't listen to either of those bands. The hilariously titled "Hugh Manatee" is a mere 1:08 of lo-fi, nearly 8-bit sounding electronic music, which is a nice interlude. Closer "Existence is Futile" gets back on the post-hardcore ball and balances itself for the remainder of the song, with the climax coming a tad before the two-minute mark, but the final minute and a bit is also quite epic.

So, in conclusion, this is a strong debut effort. I personally feel that the band had, for the most part, faced a corner while writing this release, and in doing so three of the five songs are relatively generic in the post-hardcore realm. Buuuuuuuut, they have shown that they can write a killer song with "What's Best in Life" and take cool, unexpected tangents with the 8-bit "Hugh Manatee". I'm curious to see what they end up producing next, as they likely have the ability to either put me to sleep or blow me away. I hope they go for the latter.
